Ames Brook Campground is located in the heart of New Hampshire’s lakes and White Mountains, making it one of the best places to go camping in the state. Once your tents are set up or your RV is parked, we highly recommend you go hiking nearby our campground. Below are five easy/moderate family friendly hikes under 30 minutes from our campground…

  • West Rattlesnake Mountain 
    • Easy/Moderate 
    • Distance: 2 miles
    • Trails: Old Bridle Path, Ridge Trail
    • This hike goes to the summit of West Rattlesnake Mountain and offers fantastic views of Squam Lake and its many islands at the foot of the mountain.
  • Mt.Morgan Trailhead
    • Moderate 
    • Distance: 3.9 Miles 
    • Mount Morgan Trail is a heavily trafficked out and back trail that features beautiful wild flowers and is rated as moderate. The trail is primarily used for hiking and nature trips and is best used from April until October. Dogs are also able to use this trail but must be kept on leash.
  • Whitten Woods Trailhead 
    • Easy
    • Distance: 2.7 Miles
    • This hike has been described as more of a walk but results in some great views of Squam Lake. The trail is groomed and there are signs to help locate the path along the way. Dogs are welcome as are families!
  • Bald Ledge Scenic Vista Trailhead
    • Easy
    • Distance: 1.3 Miles
    • Bald Ledge is a 1.3 mile lightly trafficked out and back trail located near New Hampton, New Hampshire that features a lake and is good for all skill levels. The trail is primarily used for hiking, walking, running, and nature trips.
  • Belknap Woods Trailhead 
    • Easy 
    • Distance: 2 Miles 
    • Trails: Outer Loop, Beaver Pond Loop 
    • Belknap Woods Loop is a 2 mile lightly trafficked loop trail located near Moultonborough, New Hampshire that offers the chance to see wildlife and is good for all skill levels. The trail is primarily used for hiking, trail running, and nature trips and is accessible year-round.
